Brief Description (English)

Propofol is a potent intravenous anesthetic agent used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It is often referred to as “milk of amnesia” due to its white, milky appearance. It works very rapidly to cause loss of consciousness. Because it can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure and suppress breathing, it must only be administered by trained anesthesia professionals in a hospital setting with full monitoring and airway support.
